Vintage Esso map

Hasn't it been a strange week?  It certainly has in this country.  We've gone from delicious fall weather to cold and destruction.

Cooler weather on its way and a frog

Finally got most of the houseplants in for the winter.  Still have a couple to go, but our winter indoor garden has begun.

The other day when I let the dog out, this very tiny fellow was clinging to the screen door.  I caught him to bring him inside to get his picture.  He was so cold in my hand, colder than a drop of water and yet his eyes were bright and alive.  He looked at me and it was obvious there was an intelligence, an entity there.  We are such predators mos of the time, we don't think about the validity of the lives around us.
I only had my cell phone and he was very small, so the photo is not very good.

Morning Glory

Sorry about being absent so long.
First there was husband getting a job in another state and all the worry and decisions concerning that.
Then ebay had 5 free listing days.  Good because they took my mind off being on my own.

Now, I'm sort of back to normal.  Whatever that is.

Just listed this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180991989996&ssPageName=ADME:L:LCA:US:1123.

Pretty book, huh?

Redfield Proctor

I love the detail on this.  Believe it or not, it is a photo of a bookplate.  I don't know if there was a house called Redfield Proctor.  I have discovered that Redfield Proctor was a Governor of Vermont.  Perhaps this was his home?  Seldom do you see such detail in the printing processes of today.  One of the reasons, I guess, I love old things so much.

1003 Household Hints 104 - 113

Miss Lavinia

inspirational stories of overcoming hard times.
1949
Stated First Edition

Lucy Jane Watson and her mother were sorting out the mail and putting it into the glass-faced compartments which separated their living-room from the space set apart for the village people when they came for their mail.
Lucy Jane and her mother had ad the Dewville post-office ever since Captain Watson died.  People felt sorry for them, and no one tried to get it away.  Everybody liked Mrs. Watson, and naturally she and Lucy Jane took a great interest in the village mail, and tried to do their duty by it.

Herbie the Love Bug

Found this book in a bookcase in the spare room.  Was going to give it to a neighbor for her grandson, as she is traveling to Charleston to visit him this weekend, but I found it had a bit of value.  Times being what they are, I am trying to sell it here http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180973507714&ssPageName=ADME:L:LCA:US:1123

Japanese Warriors

from a small book with fascinating illustrations.  I know I would be terrified if this guy came after me!  He looks fierce and strangely elegant at the same time.  Not practical, maybe, but can't you see fashions based on him striding down a runway?

Clemson

I don't know if football is big where you live, but around here...The hottest rivalry is between Clemson and Carolina.  This logo is from a cookbook that celebrates a winning year.  It has some great southern recipes, too.

Interesting book of quotations, I think he was part of the Roycroft movement.  Certainly it was published during that time period.  book

Cambridge

Now I have never been to Cambridge, but this seems to be a nice gossipy book about the place and the families who live there.  It is in pristine condition, basically unread.  I would think in this election year (by the way, did you listen to Clinton last night?) people would be interested in this book from a member of a political family.  Memoir

Slavic Music 1904

I don't know if anyone out there who is looking at my blog is interested in Slavic Music.  But this old compilation of piano music has an interesting list of composers. 1904

1003 Household Hints 96 - 104

104 Sounds Silly, but it works!  Stale, soft-chunks of bread, rubbed over wallpaper in even, vertical strokes, "erase" the soiled spots--even very visible fingermarks.

I use my old bread to make bread pudding, strata or bread crumbs.  I've heard you can use it to clean old pictures, also.  Seems like there should be something inedible that could be used instead.  Especially given the ratio of food and people these days.

This darling little book is sooo tiny, not much bigger than the photo here.
Daily Food for Christians

Somerset Bridge, Bermuda

Christmas card

Interesting unused Christmas card from someone's past trip to Bermuda.  I believe the bridge is still there, just updated.  A bit of England in Bermuda.  It is possible that some of my ancestors, the Greens, lived in Bermuda.  Possibly they were Royalists who fled America during the Revolutionary War?

1003 household hints 85 - 95

Number 94 probably should be ignored altogether.  Tetrachloride I think causes cancer and a house filled with turpentine fumes...?  With all of today's electric appliances...?

But I think I'm going to try 92 - Give glazed wall tiles the sparkle of newness by wiping with a sponge dipped in ammonia and water.

That Young

Hard to believe he was once that young, hard to believe we all were!  Elton

Sleep and Dreams

Walks the night in her silver shoon
This way and that she peers and sees
Silver fruit on silver trees
